Government Contractors
States with the Highest Federal Spending in FY09
The following charts have been put together based upon fiscal year 2009 data reported on the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS). Total dollars are defined as the total dollar amount of federal contracts awarded by place of performance.
Over $20 billion separates California and Virginia from other states in terms of federal contract sales. Virginia dethroned California in fiscal year 2008 to take the number one spot. However, in fiscal year 2009, Virginia is back at number two with just under $55 billion in federal contracts. Texas trails behind at number three with over $31 billion in federal contract awards, followed closely by Maryland. Washington, D.C., the hub of the federal government, slips in at number five with over $20 billion in federal contracts.
